The Best Christmas Tradition

The Best Christmas Tradition

One of the best parts about the festive period are the traditions that occur throughout it. We recently read an article that introduced us to a beautiful tradition that all you book lovers are bound to love.

The Icelandic tradition sees Icelanders gifting books to one another on Christmas Eve, they then spend the rest of the evening reading said books. Icelanders place huge value on storytelling with one in ten of the 330,000 population publishing at least one book in their lifetime! (More information on this can be found in this BBC article). Icelandic novelist Solvi Bjorn Siggurdsson said that: ‘we are a nation of storytellers. When it was dark and cold, we had nothing else to do.’

We can’t think of a better way to spend an evening; new book, warm drink, cosied up whilst spending time with family and friends. We just wish we’d known about it sooner!
