October 2021 Interview with a Bookstagrammer

October 2021 Interview with a Bookstagrammer

October saw us sit down and chat with the wonderful Sára, the creator behind the @supernova_reads account. Make sure you check out her account when you get a moment (especially if you love cats)!

Thanks for chatting with us, Sára!

How did you first become involved with the bookstagram community? Can you remember the moment you decided to create your account?

I started my bookstagram in 2018 because I really wanted to have a space where I could combine my love of reading and photography. I was following bookstagramers and booktubers for years and I finally took the plunge to do it myself!

What’s your favourite part of the bookstagram community and why is it so important to you?

The creativity and love that people put into their accounts, it makes me feel so inspired! And of course the beautiful bookish friends that I made through the community, I’ve even got new pen pals thanks to bookstagram.

Do you think your content has evolved over the years, if so tell us more about that!

Oh, definitely! I think I have found a style that really compliments who I am as a person and I’ve become more confident in using props and generally just experimented with flat lay photography a bit more. One thing that hasn’t changed is the obscene amount I feature my cats in my photos and I wouldn’t have that any other way.

Do you have any other hobbies alongside books and reading? We’d love to hear more about them!

I love being out in nature, going on little adventures and having a good ol’ boogie! If I’m not reading I’m most likely paddle boarding, roller skating or singing and dancing very badly anywhere and everywhere.

Have you always loved books? Tell us the book that cemented your love of reading! Any particular author who’s a huge inspiration?

Yes! When I was little I found my mum’s old copy of Pippi Longstockings and my love of reading began there. I always felt safe and happy being surrounded by books and I used to insist on taking the most horrible and weathered down books home because I didn’t want them to be lonely or forgotten, haha. An author that’s a huge inspiration to me is Becky Chambers. I love how she combines sci-fi elements with detailed character studies and thinking about her books always puts a smile on my face.

So you’ve told us about your favourite writers, let’s talk about favourite characters! You can invite three fictional characters from literature to a dinner party, who are they and why did you choose them?

Loth from Priory of the Orange Tree because he’s an absolute cinnamon roll, Sissix from The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet because she’d have a lot of amazing stories to tell and a lot to teach us about her kind, Daisy Jones from Daisy Jones and the Six because she’d be the life of the party and bring fabulous music. I will cheat and also say Paddington because I’d love to meet the adorable bear in real life, I’ve already prepared him marmalade sandwiches so you can’t stop me haha.

What's the best book you've read this year?

This is probably a cheat answer as it was a re-read for me but it’s The Seven Husband of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Tell us your favourite account to follow. What do you love about it?

I really love Ellie from @hatterellreads. She does beautiful outdoor photography and features a tonne of fantasy, dark academia and queer books and what’s better is that she’s a genuinely lovely bean too.

Okay final hard hitting question… Dog ear or bookmark?

Bookmark! I’m definitely a guilty bookmark collector but I always end up using the most random objects to mark my page, from train tickets to shopping receipts, and basically anything else I can get my hands on at the time. I’m not precious about my books though so dog earing doesn’t bother me, I love seeing scribbled notes, cracked spines and highlighted passages in books that I pick up second hand.

Anything else you’d like to add or tell us about?

Keep reading and keep creating things that make you happy! If you ever want to talk about books, Taylor Swift or have a new pen pal please come say hello. Also a big thank you to Bookishly for thinking of me and giving me an excuse to gush about books!
