The Eight Best Couples In Literature.

Traditional or modern. Passionate or slow burning. Forbidden or forgiving. We all love a love story! Here are eight of our favourites from across literature.

1. Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy - Pride and Prejudice.

'In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.'

2. Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe - Anne of Green Gables.

'I have a dream,” he said slowly. “I persist in dreaming it, although it has often seemed to me that it could never come true. I dream of a home with a hearth-fire in it, a cat and dog, the footsteps of friends – and you!'

3. Rosie Dunne and Alex Stewart - Where Rainbows End (Love, Rosie)

'Today I love you more than ever; tomorrow I will love you even more. I need you more than ever. I want you more than ever.'

4. Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley - Harry Potter

'There was a clatter as the basilisk fangs cascarded out Hermione's arms. Running at Ron, she flung them around his neck and kissed him full on the mouth. Ron threw away the fangs and broomstick he was holding and responded with such enthusiasm that he lifted Hermione off her feet.'

5. Emma Woodhouse and Mr Knightley - Emma.

'I cannot make speeches, Emma...If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more. But you know what I am.'

6. Hazel Lancaster and Ausgustus Waters - The Fault In Our Stars.

'I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we’ll ever have, and I am in love with you.'

7. Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet - Romeo and Juliet.

'My bounty is as boundless as the sea, My love as deep; the more I give to thee, The more I have, for both are infinite.'

8. Lou Clark and Will Traynor - Me Before You.

'Sometimes, Clark, you are pretty much the only thing that makes me want to get up in the morning.'
