It’s Not Goodbye, It’s Auf Wiedersehen

It’s with a heavy heart that I need to share some disappointing news: from next week, Bookishly will no longer be able to ship to the EU, EEA, or Northern Ireland. This decision hasn’t come lightly, and it’s something we’ve worked incredibly hard to avoid. We'll be shipping our last EU parcels on Monday Dec 9th 2024.

The reason for this change is the introduction of the new General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR). This legislation places additional requirements on businesses selling to these regions. While we fully support the need for safety and compliance, the resources required to meet these regulations are beyond us as a small business—at least for now. To make matters more challenging, we only found out about these changes a couple of weeks before the deadline, right in the middle of our busiest season.

We’re hopeful that, with time (and plenty of tea), we’ll be able to make the necessary adjustments to achieve compliance in the coming year. However, we can’t promise anything just yet. In the meantime, I want to reassure you that we’re incredibly proud of the care and attention we put into everything we create and sell. Your trust means the world to us, and we remain committed to doing what’s right—for you and for the amazing suppliers we work with.

To our friends in the EU, EEA, and Northern Ireland: thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting Bookishly. We’re determined to explore ways to make shipping to you possible again in the future. This isn’t goodbye forever—it’s just auf Wiedersehen.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you so much for understanding.

A bookworm from Germany,
just having heard of your shop and its US tariff plight on Channel 4 News, I would have liked very much to order a tote to make up at least a little bit for the US tariff chaos. So sorry to learn it isn´t possible, due to more trade obstacles, this time EU/UK ones…
hoping they are overcome soon so one of those “Not buying from billionaires” totes can become mine. Fingers crossed & best wishes!
