Five Fictional Places That Would Make Great Holiday Destinations! 🌴

We’ve reached that time of year where it feels like every single person and their dog is on holiday - our social media feeds are filled with photographs of cocktails on the beach, with the inevitable “ Happy Monday" caption. Of course, this gives us serious FOMO and gets us thinking of all the places we’d love to escape to. But what if the places we could visit weren’t on the pages of a map, but on the pages of our favourite books. Where would we go then ?

We’ve made a list of the top five fictional places that we’d love to go on holiday. Let us know if any of them would make your list and if not, where you’d like to visit !

NEVERLAND

“Second to the right and straight on till morning.”

Peter Pan’s stomping ground would, without a doubt, make a brilliant holiday destination. Mermaids, fairies, pirates and a well deserved break from dealing with adult life. Oh, and you can fly. Count us in.

THE SHIRE

“Not all those who wander are lost.”

Fun fact! I visited actual Hobbiton (okay, it was the film set) a few years ago and it was everything i dreamed it would be and more. If i could have stayed for longer than the allotted two hour time slot i absolutely would have done - in fact, two weeks would have been ideal. Relaxing in The Green Dragon with a drink or two. Perfect

PEMBERLEY

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”

It almost feels like sacrilege to say it but i can’t help but feel that twenty-first century would make a lovely destination for a spa break… Manicures and facials aside, we’d do anything to just go and soak up the lives and surroundings of Elizabeth and Darcy. Major life goals.

AVONLEA

“Pretty? Oh, pretty doesn’t seem the right word to use. Nor beautiful, either. They don’t go far enough. Oh, it was wonderful - wonderful. It’s the first thing i ever saw that couldn’t be improved upon by imagination. It just satisfied me here.”

With beautiful descriptions like that , it’s no wonder we’d like to holiday in Avonlea - isolated, serene and picturesque beyond imagination, with all the fresh air you need to reset the mind and soul. Yes, please.

THE MAGIC FARAWAY TREE

“Dear Bessie, Fanny, Jo and Dick,

We know that you don’t want any more adventures just yet, but you might like to know that there is a most exciting land at the top of the Faraway Tree just now. It is the Land of Do-As-You-Please, even nicer than that Land of Take-What-You-Want. We are going there tonight. If you want to come, come just before midnight and you can go with us. We will wait for you till then.

Love from Silky and Moon-Face”

For the restless among us - the ones who can’t sit on the beach all day and read. Why visit one place (or land in this case) when you can visit hundreds? At the very top of the Magic Faraway Tree are ever-changing magical lands. There’s the Land of Take-What-You-Want, the Land of Goodies, the Land of Topsy-Turvy, the Land of Birthdays… Adventure awaits!
