F. Scott Fitzgerald - Literary Anniversary
Fitzgerald’s talent for writing began as a young boy and by the age of 24 when his debut novel This Side of Paradise was published, he had established himself as one of America’s most promising young writers. Fitzgerald enjoyed the success and the wealth that his new found fame had garnered him.
Fitzgerald married young to Zelda Sayre, with whom he had one daughter in 1921. Despite it being a tumultuous marriage due to both of them suffering various mental health issues, the couple stayed together for the entirety of Fitzgerald’s short life - he died of a heart attack at the age of 44.
Though Fitzgerald battled many demons in his life, it is clear that the passion and flair he held for writing remained of significant importance to him; he always went back to it and he always did well at it. Like so many of the literary greats however, Fitzgerald died believing his works were of no particular significance. It wasn’t until after his passing that his writings, in particular The Great Gatsby, gained their well-deserved place among the literary greats.
